U10 North:

St Josephs Lions 2  Hodson Bay 1

This was a great game that could have gone either way. Hodson Bay started the stronger with their direct style of play and went in 1 – 0 up at the end of the first period. After the break, St Josephs got their passing game going resulting in a succession of corners, one of which led to a fine headed goal from David Fortune. At all square going into the final period, the home team were on top and looking the more likely winners. The decider finally came near the end of this tight game from a smart finish by Man of the Match Neil Macken. Excellent performances also from Callum O’Brien and Conor Farrell for St Josephs. A special word of praise must also go out to the Hodson Bay keeper who kept the visitors in the game at times with an outstanding performance.

U14 Connaught Cup

St Josephs 3  Moylough 1

St Josephs dominated the first half of this game and deservedly went in 2-0 up at half time. The opening goal came from a fine finish by Shane Brennan after cutting in from the left. This was followed up soon after, by a clever finish from Liam Verdon. The second half started as the first had finished with St Josephs on top, however, with 15mins to go the score remained at 2-0. The home team were then caught against the run of play with a goal for Moylough. The last 10mins saw a Moylough onslaught during which they hit the bar twice and called upon Conor McGrath to make several super saves to maintain St Josephs advantage. McGrath was also protected during this period of pressure by the excellent defensive quartet of Danny Tiernan, Richard McManus, Mark Gaynor and Man of the Match Martin Flannery. Relief in the end for Josephs at the sound of the final whistle. Well done Lads.
