U10 North: St.Joseph’s 3 Willow Pk 1
This was an enjoyable game that was decided by some clinical finishing. St Joseph’s started the game brightly with Alex Francis commanding in midfield and captain Ruairi Lenihan leading the line well, but despite their best efforts the home team could not break down an equally determined Willow Pk. The breakthrough came early in the second period when Conor Farrell picked up the ball outside the box and finished with a low drive into the bottom corner. St Joseph’s then took control with the back two of Thomas Bannon and Callum O’Brien starting move after move and man of the match Luke McClean impressive throughout. The pressure paid off as St Joseph’s went two up after a powerful run and fine finish from the ever impressive Sea Henry. The best was yet to come as the home team won a free kick on the right had side and up stepped Conor Farrell again to send the ball into the top corner. At three up it looked all over but to their credit Willow did not give up and made it 3-1 soon after and if it wasn’t for some last ditch defending the visitors could have got a second to set up a tense finish. However, the St Joseph’s lads held onto their two goal advantage to come away with a well deserved victory.
U12 Premier: St.Joseph’s 0 Ballinasloe 0
A closely fought encounter in Monksland on Sunday morning saw some great play from both sides. Despite several good chances at both ends, strong defensive displays kept the score at 0-0. Well done to both teams for a very entertaining game.
U12 Div1: St Joseph’s 2 Hudson Bay 0
Despite dominating possession from start to finish in this fast paced and very entertaining game, it wasn’t until the final 10 minutes that St Joseph’s finally broke the deadlock with a goal that was well worth waiting for. An excellent cross from the ever dependable Darragh Kildea was controlled and laid off by Niall Fowler into the path of Kevin Kelly on the edge of the box. In a moment of composed class, Kelly looked up, picked his spot and riffled an unstoppable shot over the defence into the top of the net. With two minutes remaining the second goal came from an excellent solo effort by Keelan Quinn, who could already have scored a hat-trick in this game, as he picked the ball up on the edge of the box, coolly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the open net. Credit also to midfielders Damien Duff and Brian Hannon after their best performances of the season so far.
