U11 Premier: St Josephs 7 Willow Pk 1
The extended Christmas break saw these 2 teams eager to return to action in a game which was characterised by good passing football by both sides. St Joseph’s took the game to Willow from the start and soon went in front from a James Kilmartin strike. Two goals from Ciaran Lennon then took the score to 3-0. The fourth goal came from a super shot by Sean Fallon from the half-way line to put the result beyond doubt. Willow did pull one back but the recovery was short lived as Ciaran Lennon weighed in with 2 more goals and Niall Connaughton completed the rout to make it 7-1. Tireless performances from Damien Duff and Darragh Kildea on the wings, a season best display by James Kilmartin, a hardworking and exemplary performance from Harry O’Rourke and solid goalkeeping including one super point blank save by Niall Fowler, all contributed to this fine result.
U-11 Div 1: St. Joseph’s Beavers 0 Ballinahown 5
This was one of those games where the scoreline does not do justice to the performance of the losing side. For long periods in the game St Joseph’s dominated the possession with some great passing moves, however, in the end, they were denied by 3 top class saves from the Ballinahown keeper and were left to reflect on a series of other missed opportunities.
U13 Premier: St Joseph’s 4 AC Celtic 0
The scoreline indicates a comprehensive victory for the St Joseph’s, however the deadlock wasn’t broken until the final quarter of the game. After Martin Flannery finally put Joseph’s in front with 15minutes to go, the home side found their scoring boots with goals further from Cathal Callinan, Mark Shine and Jack Connaughton putting the result beyond doubt.
Well done to all teams from club sponsors Athlone Springs Hotel
